Meet The Team
As Pastoral Secretary I arrange for all the Pastoral Visitors to meet together with our minister at least twice a year. I am kept informed by the Pastoral Visitors if anyone needs our help and prayers and maybe a visit from the minister if so desired.
Although not a Waltonian I have been connected with our Church for many years. I came to teach in Surrey and with various friends came to attend this church. It has been my spiritual home and I have also enjoyed being in the Operatic Group and participating in the musical activities. My hobbies include embroidery and sugar craft.
I arrived at WMC from South Africa with my Lovely Wife in 1996. We were Church hopping, and looking for a new spiritual home. We found this at WMC on Christmas Day 1996, where the people were warm, friendly and welcoming, and the preaching was excellent - so we stayed. I was a Sunday School teacher from 1997 through to 2015. One of the members of my first class of 10 year olds has had 2 babies recently, and I suddenly feel older. I have also been a Youth Group leader. My other participation in Church life is my ponderous contribution to the Prayer Group which meets every Saturday morning at 8am. A great way to start a Saturday – pop in for a visit. I enjoy leading Bible studies, and have helped out with Pudding and Praise – our quarterly café styled service. Worth a visit for the Praise and the Puddings. At present I am one of the Church Stewards who form part of the leadership team that supports our minister (Claire) in the smooth running of the well-oiled machine that is WMC.
Rev. Sydney Samuel
My role as Lettings Officer involves the actual bookings of both the church and the rooms in the church hall. I am the first point of contact and can be reached either by
e-mail or phone. I can arrange for prospective hirers to visit the Church buildings , prepare the various paperwork and collection of the key.
In my spare time I belong to a Rambling Club - often walking over the week-end but I have also participated in walking holidays in the Pyrenees, Yorkshire and Cornwall.
I have just performed in my third production with Walton Methodist Players and I enjoy both the acting and singing.
I also like to support the local theatres and regularly attend both the Cecil Hepworth Theatre and the Riverhouse Barn.
Bridge is another pastime I have taken up in the last year which is quite challenging at times!
I am a wife and a mother to three gorgeous and glamorous girls. I work as a civil servant for the Government Legal Department four days a week, a job which I find challenging and intellectually stimulating.
I am a very active person and enjoy playing tennis and the gym. I also like singing and have recently joined Rock choir.
I was married at Walton Methodist church and have continued to worship there ever since. I have always felt at ease there as the atmosphere is very welcoming. I became a church steward at the end of last year and see the role as one which gives direction and leadership to the congregation
Sydney Samuel Lake becomes a Circuit Minister with pastoral oversight for Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge and Addlestone Methodist Churches.
Prior to full time ministry Sydney Samuel studied Accountancy, completed an MBA and then worked as a Chartered Management Accountant in the Public Sector particularly for Local Authorities. Since studying Theology Ministry and Mission at the Queens Foundation in Birmingham, he now considers himself as a traditional Methodist. He loves to practice the best of Methodists original traditions in addition to new ways of doing church.
I have been worshipping at Walton Methodist Church for many years. When I first came to Walton Methodist, I was teaching at a big Comprehensive School in Feltham. We were welcomed on our first visit, and we have not looked back. I have helped in the Sunday School and now run Messy Church.
In addition to this I love swimming, biking and walking. As well as making and decorating cakes, knitting beanie hats and scarves, and helping to look after the four grandchildren that we now have.
I am the Church secretary and a Sunday School Teacher- among other things!
I try to make our time in Sunday School fun - with lots of different activities and games. I love seeing the children take hold of an idea and am always surprised by the questions they ask - they certainly keep me on my toes!
I first came to Walton Methodist Church over 20 years ago - looking for a church to get married in. We went to many churches - but this was the one where we found the warmest welcome. We were married here in 1996 and have had both our sons baptised here. My main interests are spending time with my family and friends, walking, cycling, reading and bell ringing. I also love quizzes - even though I'm not that good at them!
