On Tuesday 7th April we headed off for 4 days on our second Youth Group Residential. The mini bus was full; there was just about enough room for the 10 of us amongst all the luggage and equipment. We then embarked on the journey to Kidderminster, with a couple of stops along the way! We stayed on a lovely working farm in an amazing barn which we had all to ourselves. This trip was slightly different from last year's as we were completely self catered and on our own! This meant cooking and washing up ourselves (a new experience for myself) and resulted in a few bubble fights!
The theme of the retreat was from the book of Ezekiel (36:26), "I will give you a new heart" and the sessions revolved around this theme. As part of the program we were invited to reflect upon our lives using a sharing short in the form of a house with different rooms, had fun making clay models to represent the different ways in which we see ourselves and how we feel God may see us, and explored a variety of scriptures. My personal favourite Bible quotation of the retreat was from the book of Esther (4:14), "and who knows perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created".
As well as these led times of reflection and scripture study we participated in some great outdoor activities including: a wide game (some of us showed a very violent side), a water fight, badminton, zip wire, high ropes, indoor caving, an inflatable obstacle course and hide and seek sardines!
It was an amazing time and I'm sure that I speak for everyone when I say that we all got to know each other a lot better and made some unforgettable memories. I thought last year's residential at the PGL centre was good, but this one smashed it out of the park. It was even better and I wonder what next year will bring (no pressure Megan)!
