What is Sunday School?
At Walton Methodist Church, we are a warm and caring Sunday School. It doesn't matter if you come once a week, once a month or once a year, you will always find a friendly welcome.
Our Sunday School meets every week, except on Sundays marked as “All Age Worship” (usually once a month) where the service hopes to suit all family members for the whole service.
On a normal Sunday the young people and children begin the service in Church with the whole congregation and then leave to go to the hall with their leaders for their own worship activities.
We have two children’s groups at the moment, one for the 3 - 9 year olds and another for children aged over 9. We also have a crèche for babies and toddlers.
What do we do?
We do a whole range of activities which are Bible-based to try and cater for everyone's tastes. With the younger children we sometimes watch Friends and heroes, followed by activities related to what they have seen. These sometimes include drawing, craft etc, all of which help to reinforce the Bible story that would be part of the theme for the week.
The older group tends to follow the 'Roots' material. This material follows the common lectionary scripture readings set for the year, which are usually followed in our main Sunday Church service.
What do we achieve?
It is nice for the children to feel that their group discussions and activities continue from what has been started off in the main Church service.
There are lots of fun and practical activities for the older children to do as well. We hope that Sunday School provides a safe space for young people to discuss Christian beliefs and attitudes, alongside bringing the weekly scripture alive. Our leaders try to make the lessons as interesting and as relevant as possible, whilst having a lot of fun and fellowship at the same time.
